Ray Ownby

Ray Ownby, 91, a lifelong resident of Bradley County, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2019 in a local healthcare facility.  He was a longtime member of North Cleveland Baptist Church.  He was retired from Bowater, and was a former member of the Bradley County School Board.  He was a member of the Masons and a United States Army Veteran.

He was preceded in death by his wife Myrtle Edith Ownby; sons Darryl Ownby and Pernell Ownby; son-in-law Larry Carroll; grandsons Forrest Carroll, Jacob Ownby, and Joshua Ownby;  parents Ashley Ownby and Ethel Wheeler Ownby; brothers Taft Ownby, Estel Ownby, Orvil Ownby, Watt Ownby, Donald Ownby, Lee Ownby, Ashley “A.L.” Ownby, and Homer Ownby; sisters Alta Montgomery, Therese Taylor, Edith Berry, Gladys Kirkpatrick, Mary Wooten, Ruth Ownby, and Zora Ownby.

Survivors include his daughter Diane Carroll; grandsons Noel Carroll and Kirby Ownby; granddaughter Brandi Cripe; 6 great grandchildren also survive; daughters-in-law Gail Ownby Rutledge and Cheryl Ownby; sisters-in-law Frankie Ownby, Zetta Moore, Oleta Ownby, Selma Ownby, and Judith Ownby; brothers-in-law Adrian and wife Diane Ownby and Charles Ownby. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral will be held at 7:00p.m Tuesday, July 9, 2019 in the chapel of Fike-Randolph & Son Funeral Home with Dr. Jay McCluskey officiating.  Interment will be Wednesday July 10, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with Noel Carroll, Kirby Ownby, Jeff Ownby, Bill Ownby, Donnie Ownby, Ashley Ownby, Tom Ownby, Tillis Ownby and Joel Cox serving as pallbearers. 

His family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at the funeral home prior to the service.
