David Mansel Parkinson

August 3, 1926 — October 18, 2018

David Mansel Parkinson, 92, of Cleveland passed away peacefully Thursday, October 18, 2018 in a local hospital.  Affectionately known by his family as Popa, he enjoyed fishing in his boat, cooking lunch for his family and sitting in his rocker on the front porch.  He was a veteran of the United States Navy and was retired from the Bowater Paper Company in Charleston, where he made many memories and friends. He was one of the oldest living members of Eastside Church of Christ, where he served as Deacon for a few years. Popa was a good man and will be missed by all that had the pleasure to know him.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Barbara Riden Parkinson; parents, George Sr. and Esther B. Parkinson; brother and sister-in-law, George, Jr. and Lorna Parkinson; brothers-in-law, Jim Riden and Norman Buckner; sister-in-law, Glenda Riden; son-in-law, Gary Davis and nephew, Mitchell Parkinson.

He is survived by his children, Sandra Parkinson Davis and Patricia “Patti” Hafley and husband, Larry, all of Cleveland; grandchildren, Piper Davis Christenbury and husband, Steve, Casey Davis Brock and husband, Brian and Erica Hafley, all of Cleveland; great-grandchildren, Cydney Brock, Cammy Brock, Jaxon “Jax” Hafley and Carrygan “Gunny” Brock; sisters-in-law, Helen Riden and Martha Buckner; several nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 22, 2018in the chapel of Fike-Randolph and Son Funeral Home with Minister Jeff Archy and Minster Bill Maynard officiating. Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with Brian Brock, Steve Christenbury, Keith Buckner, Wayne Carter, Jamie White and Logan Strickland serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Hafley, Jax Hafley, Mark Bandy, Mark Riden and Charlie Butler. Military honors will conclude the service.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at the funeral home.
