Willie Mae Burns

September 6, 1919 — May 10, 2018

Willie Mae Burns, 98, of Cleveland, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2018.  She joined Broad Street United Methodist Church in 1942 and was very active for many years.  She was very involved in the Fealty Sunday School Class.  In her younger years she helped in the ministry to the poor to help meet their needs for food and clothing.  She was well known for her chocolate cakes and gave many to grieving families, doctor’s offices and family celebrations.  Willie Mae also carried peppermints which she loved to hand out to others.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister   

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 75 years, Joe F. Burns, Sr.; parents, William and Elizabeth Taylor; four sisters; one brother; and her beloved son, Joe Burns, Jr.

Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Carmichael and husband, Wayne of Jasper, GA; daughter-in-law, Penny Burns Lewis of Cleveland; Momma Mae’s grandchildren include Joe F. Burns, III and wife, Brenda  who were devoted to her care, along with their son, Reid who brought her great joy, all of Georgetown and John Burns and wife, Natalie, both of Charleston, Doug Zukowski of Signal Mountain and Beth Jenkins of Loudon; step granddaughters, Amy Maresca of Tucker, GA and Sara Carmichael of Dallas, TX; great grandchildren, Reid Burns, Taylor and Will Zukowski and Caleb and Belle Jenkins; faithful niece, Catherine Fuller; and several other nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 15, 2018 in the chapel of Fike-Randolph & Son Funeral Home with Pastor Mary Parson officiating.  Interment will follow in Fort Hill Cemetery with grandsons and great grandsons serving as pallbearers.

Her family will receive friends from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
