John Paul Douglas

John Paul Douglas, 79, a well known and respected business man of Cleveland passed away Sunday evening, June 5, 2016 at his home. He was a member of Clingan Ridge Baptist Church.

Mr. Douglas began working at an early age; at 11 years old he was delivering papers for the Banner, then went to Harris Brothers Supermarket and at age 19 became Manager of M.C. Headrick Supermarket on Central Ave. In 1975, he began his real estate career that spanned 40 years. He was an honorary member of the American Legion and Cleveland Elks Club for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John H. and Ella Mae Day Douglas; sister, Ruth Carroll; and infant brother.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby Douglas of Cleveland; children: Danny Douglas and wife, Diane of Lexington, SC, Tammy Douglas Maxwell and husband, Scott of High Point, NC,  Jonna Epperson and husband, Greg, Tim Yarber, Kim Martin and husband, Kirk, and Cindi Richardson and husband, Bryan, all of Cleveland; 14 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; sisters, Easter Barnhart, Gladys Forgey and husband, Reverend James Forgey, and Betty Alley and husband, Don all of Cleveland; brother-in-law, Bill Carroll of Cleveland; several nieces and nephews; and countless adoring friends he truly loved.

The funeral will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at Clingan Ridge Baptist Church with Pastor Gary Sears and Pastor Gary Moats officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with Jim Hicks, Paul Renner, Gene Officer, Don Harris, Dee Burris, Eddie Miller, Eric Spencer, Drew Spencer, and Johnny Lewis serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.

His family will receive friends from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the church.

The family suggests memorials may be made to Clingan Ridge Baptist Church, 2412 Georgetown Rd. NW, Cleveland, TN 37311, or Mt. Olive Church of God, 3522 Harrison Pike, Cleveland, TN, 37311 in memory of John Paul.
