Howard F. Newell

Howard F. Newell, 91, of the Birchwood community, passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2015 in a Chattanooga health care facility. He was retired from the insurance industry where he was in sales and management. Howard proudly served in the United States Coast Guard and served on a battleship in World War II in the North Sea. He was also a member of the Limestone Masonic Lodge 176 for 50 years. Howard also worked a number of years at Fike Funeral Home after retirement. He was a member for over 60 years and served as a deacon at New Liberty Baptist Church in Birchwood. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Newton Newell and Dora Gregory Newell; son, Howard Franklin Newell, Jr.; and 10 brothers and sisters. Survivors include his wife, Nora Lawson Newell of Birchwood; daughter, Lynn Newell of Chattanooga; granddaughter, Ronda Boller and husband, Bryon of Ooltewah; special nieces, Tomma Stiner and husband, Jerry of Ten Mile and Sandy West of Tampa, FL; and several other nieces and nephews. The funeral will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2015 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with the Reverend Johnny Jones and Dr. James Hutchings officiating. The interment will follow in Cofer Cemetery in Meigs County with Frank Friddell, Donnie Burns, Carson Allison, Frank Friddell, Jr., Denny Moon and Tony Allison serving as pallbearers.
