Letha Elizabeth Haynie, 79 years of age went home to be with the Lord on July 30, 2011 at Life Care Center of Athens. She was a native of Haywood County, N.C. and had resided in Calhoun, TN for the last 57 years. She worked at Dayton Rubber Co. in Waynesville, N.C. before coming to TN in 1954. Later she was employed with American Uniform Co. for 27 years before retiring. She was a faithful member of Calhoun United Methodist Church before becoming ill in 2004. She was known for her great ability to cook and bake cakes for others. She was preceded in death by her husband and best friend, Carol G. "Chief" Haynie in 2003; also preceded by her parents, Sallie and Lawrence Waldrup; sister, Norma Meadows and brother, Robert Waldrup. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Gary Barham of Calhoun; two sons, Robbie Haynie of Cleveland and Jimmy Haynie and his wife Sandy of Riceville; four grandchildren, Ashton Haynie of Riceville, Cami and Torey Killom of Fountain City, Geoffrey Haynie of Charleston and Caroline Haynie of Charlotte, NC; one great grandson, Weston Haynie of Charleston; brother, Lawrence Walrup, Jr., and his wife Lorene of Waynesville, NC; brother-in-law, Charles Haynie of Florida; several nieces and nephews and special friends, Evelyn Bryan, Leta Thompson and Connie Hayden. Funeral services will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Monday, August 1, 2011 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with the Reverend Mike Bernard and Reverend Mary Parson officiating. Graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Reverend Hugh Bryan and Reverend Mary Parson officiating. Entombment will follow with Wes Haney, Jerry Trotter, Andy Myers, Eddie Geren, John Barham and Moe McCormack serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home prior to the service.
