Catherine LeCroy North, 88, passed away Saturday, October 16, 2010. She was born on Lookout Mountain, Georgia on June 10, 1922 and grew up in Chattanooga Valley, graduating from Chattanooga Valley High School. After completing a secretarial program at Wiley Business School, she enlisted in the Navy in 1945, where she achieved the rank of Corpsman before the end of World War II. She married John Walker North of Chattanooga Valley in 1947. Mrs. North worked for Pryor, Love and Lewis in Chattanooga, for the law firm of Bell, Whitson, Painter, McMurray and Calloway in Cleveland, Tennessee, and retired from the Bradley County Board of Education in 1987. She moved to Henderson, Kentucky in 2001 and has resided at the Western Kentucky Veteran's Center since 2008. Mrs. North served as organist at the Flintstone Baptist Church in Chattanooga Valley for many years and was a member of First Baptist Church in Cleveland, TN and also the First Baptist Church in Henderson, KY. She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, John W. North, and her parents Robert Lee LeCroy and Margaret Carlock LeCroy. She is survived by her daughters Annis North Shaver of Dayton, Ohio, Leslie North Hall of Henderson, Kentucky, granddaughter, Elizabeth "Libby" Hall of San Francisco, California, and her sister Ruth LeCroy Kitchens of Chattanooga. Graveside services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 19, 2010 in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with the Reverend John North officiating. The service will conclude with military honors and a white dove release ceremony.
