Rebecca I. Russell

Rebecca (Becky) Jones Russell, 82, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday September 11, 2007.

She was born on June 19, 1925 in Polk County, TN. She was the daughter of the late James Wylie and Lillian Mahan Jones.

She was a strong Christian wife, mother and grandmother who lived her faith. She was known as a wonderful hostess and friend. She was married for 53 years to Kenneth W. Russell until his death in 2002.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers; Claud S. "Jug" and Wylie "W.T." Jones.

She graduated from Ft. Sanders' School of Nursing in Knoxville, TN. in 1945 and served briefly as a cadet nurse in the closing days of World War II. Until recently she had lived most of her life in Cleveland. Until her retirement in 1980, she had worked as a registered nurse for the late Dr. Claude H. Taylor. During that time she was an active member of the North Cleveland Baptist Church and served for many years as a Sunday School teacher for high school girls and adult ladies. She also belonged to Just Older Youth (JOY) senior adult group.

Survivors include a son, Kenneth W. (Kathy) Russell, II of Calhoun, Ga.; a daughter, Karen I. (Carl) Day of Signal Mountain, three grandchildren; Ken (Nikki) Phillips of Signal Mountain, Kent and Katy Russell of Calhoun, great granddaughter, Kaylin Phillips of Signal Mountain. Several sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Friday September 14, 2007 at North Cleveland Baptist Church with Dr. Jay McCluskey and Dr. Bert Vaughn officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens. Deacons of the North Cleveland Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers and members of the Sunshine Sunday School class will serve as honorary pallbearers. The service will conclude with a white dove release ceremony.

Her family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Fike Funeral Home.
