William 'Gary' Martin, I

June 19, 1949 — July 30, 2007

William "Gary" Martin, I, 58, went to be with his Lord on Monday, July 30, 2007 following a brief illness. A lifelong resident of Cleveland, Mr. Martin was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a graduate of Cleveland High School, East Tennessee State University and attended Life University School of Chiropractic. He was a 32nd degree Mason and held membership in the Charleston Lodge 484, Scottish Rite, York Rite, Cleveland Shrine, Chattanooga Alhambra Shrine and Eastern Star. Mr. Martin was also on the emergency team of the Cleveland Amateur Radio Club. He was an active member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church where he served as a chalice bearer.
He was preceded in death by his father, W.D. Martin and father-in-law, DuVaughn Coffey.

A devoted husband, father and son, he is survived by his wife of 38 years, Phyllis Coffey Martin; son, William "Will" Gary Martin II; mother, Pauline Martin; mother-in-law, Sara Lou Coffey; brothers-in-law, Dwight Coffey (Vicki), Lynn Coffey (Debbie); sister-in-law, Renee May (Mark); nieces and nephews: Misti and Justin Coffey, Alivia and Brandon Coffey, Candace Leslie and Katie May; special aunts: Ruth Beck, Mabel West and Wilma Treadwell and several uncles and cousins.

A memorial service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 1, 2007 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church with the Reverend Joel W. Huffstetler, Rector officiating.

His family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Parish Hall of St. Luke's Episcopal Church.
