Joe Cephas Geren Sr., age 91, a resident of Cleveland, passed away at his home Tuesday, October 17, 2006. He was a retired security guard, employed as a car-hauler and worked at Magic Chef. He enjoyed fishing, his cats and being outside. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Velma Geren; two sisters, Ozell (Tootsie) Cartwright, Jimmie Lee Geren; two brothers; Ted Geren and Fred Geren and son-in-law, Dennis Burns.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Edna Bigham Geren of Cleveland, four children and spouse: Joe Cephas Geren, Jr. and wife, Judy, Ricky (Skid) Geren and friend, Cindy Blackwell, Ethelle Goodman and husband Bobby all of Cleveland and Rita Burns of Athens; eight grandchildren and spouses: Rhonda Goodman McAlister and husband, David, Schonna Goodman Linn and husband, Eddie, Shane Geren and wife, Jennifer, Aimee Geren, Brandy Burns, Brandon Burns, Skidder Joe Geren, and Buck Geren; five great grandchildren and spouses: Tiffany McAlister Sims and Dustin, Daniel McAlister, Kent and Ashley Linn and Alexis Burns; three great-great grandchildren: Kynslei, Kyra and Lance Sims; brothers and spouses: Ed Geren of Atlanta, Eugene (Punk) Geren and Jack Geren both of Cleveland; sisters and spouses: Estalene (Dude) Kaylor, Barbara Tucker and Bob and sister-in-law, Cora Lee Geren all of Cleveland and several nieces and nephews and cousins.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday at Fort Hill Cemetery with Shane Geren, Brandon Burns, Daniel McAlister, Kent Linn, Skidder Joe Geren and Buck Geren serving as pallbearers. Eugene Geren, Ed Geren, David McAlister and Eddie Linn will be serving as honorary pallbearers.
