Americo Deana

Americo Francis "Dee" Deana, age 82, a resident of Cleveland for the past 45 years, passed away Sunday, October 1, 2006 in a local healthcare facility. He was a charter member of St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus where he was very active. He was a veteran of the United States Army Aircorp where he served in World War II and the Korean War. He was employed with Duracell as a chemist for 45 years.

He was a 1956 graduate of Columbia University with a degree in Chemistry. He was a volunteer fireman in North Tarrytown, N.Y. with the Rescue Hose Station where he was a member of the Fife and Drum Corp.

Mr. Deana was the son of the late Ernesto and Luigia Deana and was also preceded in death by a brother, Frank Deana and a sister, Mary Richard.

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He adored and was so proud of his grandchildren. "Nonu" will be greatly missed.

Dee lived his life with great dignity, never wanting the spotlight but relishing in the accomplishments of others. He leaves behind a legacy of love and respect. We are comforted in knowing he has reached that long awaited reunion with his family and look forward to joining him again someday. Rest now Dad, job well done.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Cecilia Sprince Deana of Cleveland; one son and daughter-in-law: Daniel G. Deana, M.D. and Misty Deana of Panama City Beach, Florida; three daughters and spouses: Christina Deana Moss and Major "Sonny" Moss of Cleveland, Paula D. Shafer and Roger Shafer of Elkview, West Virginia, Patti Erisman and Rolf Erisman of Clifton, Tennessee; six grandchildren: Nina Moss Thurman, Jessica Lee Shafer, Cecilia Marie Shafer, Anthony Michael Deana, Roman Vincent Deana and Rolf Jacob Erisman, II; one nephew, Steven Deana and one niece, Laura Waller also survive.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church with Father P.J. McGinnity and Father Antonio Giraldo officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with military honors. Bill Salter, Donald Sharpe, Richard Hogan, Demetrius Stavrianos, Dick McCartney, Charles Hysinger, and John Sughrue will serve as pallbearers. Sonny Moss, Roger Shafer, Rolf Erisman and Jamie Thurman will serve as honorary pallbearers.

His family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Fike Funeral Home with a Rosary Service following at 8:00 p.m.
