Cass 'C.L.' Layfette Caldwell

June 20, 1921 — April 29, 2007

Cass Layfette (C.L.) Caldwell, age 85, a lifelong resident of Georgetown, passed away on Sunday, April 29, 2007 in a local hospital. He was born on June 20, 1921 to the late Cass and Callie Wrinkle Caldwell. He was preceded in death in addition to his parents by his sister, Beatrice Caldwell Gibson and brothers; Roy Caldwell, Forest Caldwell and Amos Caldwell. He was the owner of Caldwell and Caldwell Paving Company for over 35 years. Mr. Caldwell was an avid coon hunter, loved trout fishing and enjoyed the outdoors.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Erma Lee Cofer-Scott Caldwell, who he married on March 8, 1941; daughter, Diane Caldwell; sons; Bobby Caldwell and wife Frances; and Steve Caldwell all of Georgetown; six grandchildren: Lisa and Rich Cleary, Summer Blizzard, Jason and Maggie Caldwell, Brian and Amy Caldwell, Anthony and Angie Caldwell, Mark and Jennifer Caldwell all of Georgetown; 11 great grandchildren; one brother, Athel Caldwell and wife, Barbara; sister-in-law, Lou Anna Caldwell and special friend, Steve Blizzard all of Georgetown and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, 2007 in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Reverend David Evans officiating. Interment will follow in Cofer Cemetery in Meigs County with grandsons: Anthony, Mark, Jason, Brian and Andy Caldwell and Steve Blizzard serving as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.

His family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
