James Austin Allen

May 4, 1930 — December 16, 2006

James Austin Allen, age 76, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Saturday, December 16, 2006 in a local hospital. He was a member of the North Cleveland Baptist Church. He received his master's degree in engineering at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Early in his career his was employed by Union Carbide in Oak Ridge. He then came to Cleveland as a professor of architecture at Cleveland State Community College where he served for 30 years. While at Cleveland State he served as a golf coach. He was a veteran of the United States Marines serving in the Korean War.

Mr. Allen was the son of the late James W. Allen and Floy Baker Allen.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Marty Allen of Cleveland; two daughters and spouses: Suzanne and Jeff Ratcliff and Cynthia and Fred Hayes all of Ooltewah; three grandchildren: Israel Essex, Justin Kenney and Stephanie Brackett; two great-grandchildren: Sophie Kenney and Kaylee Brackett; one sister, Bette Darley of Maryland.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Fike Funeral Home with Dr. Jay McCluskey officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens with military honors.

His family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
