Della Mae Dodd Jones

Della Mae Dodd Jones, 92, of Cleveland, TN passed to her heavenly home February 22 with her favorite nurse and cherished granddaughter, Sally Meachen at her side. Della was born March 20, 1928 and would have celebrated her 93rd birthday this March. She was born in Oakdale, TN; moved to Cleveland, TN in 1965, where she and her late husband, Russell H. Jones, Sr. started a family business, J & J Drywall, Inc. that has continued for 56 years. Della dearly loved being outdoors, working in her flowers and taking care of her animals. She attended Clingan Ridge Baptist Church and looked forward to church and seeing her Sunday school classmates every Sunday.

She was the daughter of the late, Arthur and Cora Marie Snow Dodd and granddaughter of the late James Caleb Snow and the late Frances Bingham Snow. Della was also preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Russell H. Jones, Sr.; daughter-in-law, Shirley Liner Jones; one brother, J C Dodd; and two sisters, Betty Bivens and Dorothy Smith.

Survivors include one daughter, Carlotta and Ken Clemons of Cleveland; two sons, Russell H. Jones, Jr. of Cleveland and Gary and Maxine Jones of Ocoee; four grandchildren, Sally and Tanner Meachen of Benton, Clay and Naamah Jones of Calhoun, Lisa and Spanky Messier of Birchwood and Jamie and Steve Haun of Cleveland; nine great grandchildren, Tanner Meachen II and Tate Meachen of Benton; Abagail, Caden and Susanna Jones of Calhoun, Chad Haun and Malorie Haun Cissom of Cleveland, Katie Haynes of Chattanooga and Allie Reeves of Birmingham; eleven great, great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Della is also survived by one sister, Maxine (Jack) Davis of Conley, GA; and two brothers, Lynn (Doreen) Dodd of Oakdale, TN and Cecil Dodd of Rockwood, TN.

There will be a graveside service at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105 or a charity of your choice.
