Derrick Maxwell "Moon" Pelley, Sr.

The Family of Derrick Maxwell “Moon” Pelley, Sr. of Charleston announces his passing from this earth into heaven on Tuesday, June 14, 2022.  Max was born on January 9, 1938 in Cornerbrook Newfoundland, Canada.  He made the Calhoun/Charleston area his home since 1954.  He became a naturalized citizen November 13, 1969.

He was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ serving in the roles of Elder, teacher, and song leader, at both Central and Eastside Churches of Christ.  Moon will be remembered by all who knew him as a friend, a musician, a patriotic citizen, and a loving father and wonderful provider for his most cherished wife, Wanda.  His work ethic was incredible, helping anyone who needed it and always available for his children.  Moon loved bluegrass, woodworking, teaching bible study, and gardening.   He was employed by Bowater Southern Paper Mill for 43 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Mary Rowsell Pelley; his brothers, Walter and Jim; and his sisters, Ann Leanard and Blanche Lakins.  

Moon leaves behind to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Wanda Randolph Pelley; two sons, David (Colleen) Pelley and Derrick (Kelly) Pelley; two daughters, Hope Anne Leikness (Roger) and Heather Pelley; grandchildren, Rachel, Shawn, Shane, Annabelle, Jake, Kai, Kenzo, and Cilicia; brothers, Dick (Sylvia) Pelley and Gary (Bev) Pelley; sisters, Marie Caravan and Margie Pelley; and several nieces and nephews. 

The funeral will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2022 in the chapel of Fike-Randolph & Son Funeral Home with Minister Wayne Miller officiating.  The interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.  

His family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 p.m. and 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
