Peter James Goodwin, Jr., age 75, of Cleveland, Tennessee, passed away on May 15, 2025, at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He was surrounded by his wife and daughters.
Peter was born on April 2, 1950 in Goshen, New York, to Peter James Goodwin Sr. and Margaret (Strong) Goodwin. He graduated from Montoursville High School in Montoursville, Pa. in 1968, and from Mt. St. Mary’s College in Emmitsburg, Md. In 1972. Peter played competitive basketball throughout high school and college, and was known for setting scoring and rebounding records.
Peter enjoyed a long and distinguished career as an executive in the industrial minerals industry. After moving to Cleveland, TN in 2006, Peter & Susan started an alpaca farm, Foster’s Trail & Alpaca Farm. Upon his retirement from the corporate world in 2013, they were able to focus on their herd which included participating in alpaca shows across the US. Peter loved a good road trip.
Peter is survived by his beloved wife Susan of 27 years. He was the proud father of Amy J. Goodwin (Chris Emerson), and Allison M. Goodwin, both of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. He also leaves behind his step-sons, J. Tyler Lawson (Anne) of Marietta, GA and J Chad Lawson (Tina) of Watkinsville, GA plus 4 grandchildren, Cavin, Nate, Camryn, and Kristin Lawson all of Ga. He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as many aunts and uncles.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 30, 2025 at 12:00 pm, at St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church, 900 Clingan Ridge Dr NW, Cleveland, Tennessee, with Mike Nolan presiding. A visitation will be held at the church beginning at 11:00 am, followed by the Mass. Interment will be a private ceremony held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Peter’s name to the Welsh Laboratory at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, Texas, or St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church, Cleveland, Tennessee.
