Shirley Jean Rogers

December 12, 1932 — February 6, 2021

Reverend Shirley Jean McBurney Rogers, 88, of Mountain City, GA passed away Saturday, February 6, 2021 at a local healthcare facility. Shortly after her birth, she and her family moved to Jennings, Louisiana; she claims Jennings as her home town. Shirley is a retired member of the Holston Conference and is registered at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church in Cleveland, TN. She was ordained an Elder in the United Methodist Church, Holston Conference on June14, 1994.

She attended the University of Tennessee where she received her Bachelor of Science degree and was initiated in Psi Chi, the National Honor Society in Psychology on May 3, 1987. She received her Master of Divinity from Erskine Theological Seminary, in Due West, SC on May 20, 1990.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jay Robert Rogers; parents, Walter John and Mildred Hatchett McBurney; brother, John McBurney; and sister, Mary Jo Clogston.

Survivors include her son, Jay Shannon Rogers, Sr. (Ashley) and daughter, Melissa M. Rogers all of Mountain City, GA; 6 grandchildren; and brother, Burton McBurney.

A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, February 12, 2021 at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Her family will receive friends from 10:00-11:30 a.m. Friday at Fike-Randolph & Son Funeral Home.
